Memberships Overview

Learn who can use Memberships, how recurring plans and benefits work, and which guides help your team manage them.

💎 Ultimate+ only: This feature is available on the Ultimate+ plan.

📝 Note: Memberships are available only to businesses using Smarter Invoice.

Memberships let your business sell recurring plans that include service credits, discounts, or both. MoeGo charges the client's saved payment method according to the plan schedule and tracks the available benefits on the client profile.

Instead of collecting payment and tracking loyalty benefits in separate places, your team can connect the recurring charge, benefit balance, client history, and checkout workflow in MoeGo.

Before You Start

Before creating or selling memberships, make sure the following requirements are met:

  • The Ultimate+ plan

  • Smarter Invoice

  • MoeGo Pay (👉 Learn more: Get Started with MoeGo Pay)

  • A usable saved payment method for the client

  • The relevant Membership staff permission

  • At least one Active Membership plan

What a Membership plan includes

A Membership plan defines:

  • The recurring price and applicable tax

  • How often the client is charged

  • When the subscription starts and renews

  • Which locations can sell the plan

  • Whether clients can purchase it through Online Booking

  • The discounts or service credits available during each benefit period

  • When unused benefits expire

  • Which clients, pets, services, or add-ons can use the plan

  • The business's terms and policies

A client creates a Membership subscription when they purchase a plan. The subscription follows that plan through activation, recurring charges, benefit use, pause, restart, cancellation, and refund activity.

How a Membership subscription works

  1. Create the plan: Set the price, billing schedule, benefits, locations, eligibility rules, and terms.

  2. Choose how clients can purchase: Sell from Business Web, send a client-specific link, or enable purchase through Online Booking.

  3. Start the subscription: Charge immediately or schedule a start date allowed by the plan's billing schedule.

  4. Release benefits: MoeGo makes benefits available according to the plan's benefit-release setting.

  5. Apply benefits: Eligible benefits can apply during Smarter Invoice checkout or supported Online Booking flows.

  6. Manage the subscription: Review billing and benefit history, change the saved payment method, pause, restart, cancel, refund, or transfer eligible service credits to Store Credit.

Membership Status

Memberships move through different statuses depending on billing and activity.

Status

Definition

Benefits Availability

Available Actions

Active

Subscription is live and billing is successful.

✅ Available

• Pause

• Cancel

• Refund

Paused

Billing is temporarily stopped

❌ Unavailable

Benefits are frozen and cannot be redeemed while paused.

• Restart (Resume billing and benefits)

Scheduled

Purchased but set to start on a future date

❌ Unavailable

Benefits will become active on the start date.

• Cancel (Terminate the schedule)

Canceled

Subscription has ended permanently.

This can happen immediately, at the end of a cycle, or due to payment failure.

⚠️ Conditional

• Immediate Cancel: Benefits stop immediately (unless you manually opted to keep them).

• Period End: Benefits remain active until the expiration date.

Cannot Renew / Reactivate

Once canceled, a membership cannot be reverted to Active. The client must purchase a new membership subscription to rejoin.

Important limitations

  • A Membership subscription belongs to the client profile, not one named pet.

  • Business App cannot manage New Membership.

  • Clients cannot manage the Membership lifecycle or recurring payment method themselves.

  • A canceled subscription cannot be reactivated. The client must purchase a new subscription.

  • Setting a plan to Inactive prevents new purchases but does not cancel existing subscriptions.

  • Your business cannot manually arrange Membership plans into a custom display order.
