Set Up Tips and Tips Split

Tips are often shared across one or multiple staff members during an appointment. MoeGo allows you to control exactly how tips are allocated and calculated so your payroll stays fair and transparent.

You can configure:

  • How tips are allocated to staff

  • How tips are split between multiple staff

  • Whether each staff member is eligible to receive tips

These settings work together to determine the final tip distribution shown in Payroll Reports.

How Tip Splitting Works

When a client leaves a tip, MoeGo calculates it in this order:

  1. Allocate tips to staff

  2. Split tips between assigned staff

  3. Apply each staff’s tip rate

This ensures tips are distributed automatically and consistently in Payroll.

Step 1 — Tip Allocation to Staff

Path: Settings → Staff → Payroll Settings → Tipping Splitting → Tip Allocation to Staff

This controls what happens to tips that are not linked to a specific staff member, which is common for:

  • Boarding-only appointments

  • Daycare services

  • Mixed BD + Grooming invoices

Option A — All tips to staff

💡 Best for: Grooming-focused businesses or teams where all tips should go to staff.

  • 100% of tips go to staff

  • No portion remains unassigned

Option B — Proportional to staff’s service involvement

💡 Best for: Businesses where some services don’t involve direct staff.

  • Tips are distributed only to staff linked to services

  • Any unassigned portion is not distributed to staff

Step 2 — Tip splitting Between Staff

Path: Settings → Staff → Payroll Settings → Tipping Splitting → Tip Splitting Between Staff

When multiple staff work on the same appointment, this determines how tips are divided.

This applies when:

  • Multiple staff on one service

  • Multiple services in one invoice

  • Multiple pets handled by different staff

Option A — Split by Service Price

Tips are divided based on the service price percentage assigned to each staff member in a multi-staff appointment.

Example
A client leaves a $10 tip on a $100 appointment with two staff members:

  • Lily is assigned 80% of the service price

  • Marina is assigned 20%

Tip distribution:

  • Lily receives $8

  • Marina receives $2

Commission is then calculated using each staff member’s normal commission rate.

Option B — Split Equally Between Staff

Tips are evenly divided among all staff members assigned to the appointment.

Example
A client leaves a $10 tip on a $100 appointment with two staff members:

  • Lily receives $5

  • Marina receives $5

💡 Note
Tip splitting can be customized on an individual invoice if needed.

Step 3 — Staff Tip Rate

Path: Settings → Staff → Staff Profile → Payroll → Tip Rate

This determines whether a staff member receives tips in payroll.

When the Tips option is selected:

  • The staff member receives 100% of the tips from their assigned appointments

  • Tips are included in the staff member’s payroll calculation

If the Tips option is not selected:

  • Tips are not included in the staff member’s payroll, and display as N/A

⚠️ This only affects Payroll calculations, not invoice or reporting totals.

💡 Important Note
Setting a 0% tip rate or withholding tips may violate federal or state labor laws. It is your responsibility to ensure your tip and payroll practices comply with all applicable laws.

Manual Tip Adjustments

Even after tips are calculated automatically, you can manually update them.

💡 Useful for special cases or corrections.
